EN SHAO
Born in Tianjin China, Maestro En Shao began lessons on the piano and violin at the age of 4 and 5 respectively and by the age of 18 was working as a professional composer, pianist and percussionist. He attended the Beijing Central Conservatoire and on graduating was appointed to the position of 2nd Principal Conductor of the Chinese Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra.
He came to the UK in 1988 to further his study at the Royal Northern College of Music and was immediately awarded the Lord Rhodes Fellowship. The following year he won the 6th International Conductors Competition in Hungary launching his career in the West.
During the 1990's Maestro Shao held several Principal positions in Europe, including the Associate Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Principal Guest Conductor of the Euskadi Orchestra in Spain and the Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Ulster Orchestra. He is currently the Director and Principal Conductor of the Macao Orchestra a position he was offered by the Macao Government in 2002.
