PINCHAS STEINBERG

Pinchas Steinberg studied violin in the USA and composition in Berlin. In 1974 he made his conducting debut with the RIAS Symphony Orchestra in Berlin. This was the first of a long series of prestigious orchestras which he has conducted, including Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, Orchestre National de France, Santa Cecilia Orchestra Roma, Czech Philharmonic, Munich Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestra Nacional d'Espana, Budapest Festival Orchestra and many others. Pinchas Steinberg conducted at the Festivals of Salzburg, Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Orange, Verona, Bregenz, Granada, Flanders and the Richard Strauss Festival in Garmisch..

From 1988 to 1993, he was Permanent Guest Conductor with the Vienna State Opera. He has conducted opera productions in many of the major opera houses of the world, London (Covent Garden), Paris, Munich, San Francisco, Berlin, Rome, Vienna, Madrid and Barcelona.

Between 1989-1996, Pinchas Steinberg was Chief Conductor of the Radio Symphony Orchestra in Vienna and from 2002-2005 Musical Director of the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande in Geneva. His highly acclaimed recordings include Wagner´s "Der fliegende Hollander", Catalani´s "La Wally" for BMG, and Richard Strauss "Die schweigsame Frau". His RCA recording of Massenet´s "Cherubin" was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque, the Diapson d´Or, the German Critics Prize and the Caecilia Prize in Bruxelles.

In December 2001, Pinchas Steinberg made a triumphant USA concert debut with the Dallas and Cleveland Orchestras and was reinvited to return to Cleveland in the 2003 ,2005,2006 and 2007 seasons.
