Gottlieb Wallisch is one of the fastest rising representatives of the younger generation of
Austrian artists; Virtuosity and sovereign individuality are the hallmarks of his playing.
Born in 1978 in Vienna into a family of musicians, Gottlieb received his first piano lessons
from his mother at the age of four. At the age of six and half he began his studies at the
Vienna University of Music and Drama and graduated with honours from this University.
Gottlieb Wallisch received further important artistic influence from Oleg Maisenberg, Dmitrij
Bashkirov and participated in master classes given by Stephen Kovacevich. At the age of 16,
the young pianist won the first prize in the prestigious international piano competition "The
Stravinsky Awards"(USA) His most recent successes include becoming a finalist of the
"Queen Elisabeth International Piano Competition" in Brussels and at the XXI. Concours
Clara Haskil in Vevey.
Gottlieb Wallisch has performed with leading orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic
Orchestra, The Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the
Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Camerata Salzburg, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, and the
Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, under conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Dennis Russell
Davies, Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Louis Langrée, Sir Neville Marriner, Christopher Hogwood,
Philippe Entremont, Lawrence Foster and Helmut Müller-Brühl. Numerous concert tours have
taken him to the USA (Carnegie Hall, Washington DC), Great Britain (Wigmore Hall, Queen
Elizabeth Hall), Japan, Hong Kong, the Middle East, Africa and many European countries,
including Spain, Germany and Switzerland.
He participated in the international cycle “Rising Stars” and gave solo recitals in the largest
European capitals as well as in the USA (Musikverein Vienna, Konserthus Stockholm,
Société Philharmonique in Brussels, the Athens Concert Hall, Wigmore Hall, London and the
Carnegie Hall, New York).
He has appeared at renowned festivals and concert halls, for example the Lucerne Festival,
Piano Festival Ruhr, the Salzburg Festival, Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Tonhalle Zürich,
Newbury Spring Festival and many more. Recent seasons have seen him performing at the
Musikhalle Hamburg, the Kölner Philharmonie, “De Doelen” Rotterdam, the Wiener
Festwochen and the Budapest Spring Festival.
Gottlieb Wallisch has broadcast amongst other for ORF Radio, Austria, Radio France
International, RTBF Belgium and the BBC London and Minnesota Public Radio. His CD
publications up to date include amongst others works by Scarlatti, Haydn, Schumann,
Brahms, Schubert and Stravinsky as well as works by Mozart, Strauss and Pfitzner. As a
respected artist of the Viennese piano tradition he has recently signed to the British recording
company LINN records. His debut CD with this Label “Mozart in Vienna” will be released in
2010.
