JOHANNES WILDNER
After positions as chief conductor of the State Philharmonic Orchestra of Košice (Slovakia, 1990-93) of the Prague State Opera (1994-95), and as First Permanent Conductor of the Leipzig Opera (1996-98), Johannes Wildner, former violinist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and musicologist, has been "Generalmusikdirektor“ of the New Philharmonic Orchestra of Westphalia since 1997, an orchestra based in Recklinghausen (Germany) which also is the opera orchestra of the opera house in Gelsenkirchen. CD-recordings of Bruckner’s 3rd and 9th symphonies demonstrate the successful, continuous work Johannes Wildner has done with his orchestra.
Johannes Wildner’s schedule always reserves an important place to opera which, in addition to his engagements at the Prague State Opera, the Leipzig Opera (with TV-recordings of Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” and “Così fan tutte”) and the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen, has also taken him to the Vienna Volksoper, the operetta festival of Mörbisch, the Vienna Chamber Opera, the Opera House of Halle (Germany), the National Opera in Bratislava, the Richard-Wagner-Festival in Wels (Austria), the Vienna summer festival "Mozart in Schönbrunn" and the Opera House in Graz. Most recently, he also conducted a production of Bizet's "Carmen" in front of 32.000 spectators in the Arena AufSchalke in Gelsenkirchen. In 2004, Johannes Wildner had huge success with Peter Maxwell Davies'' Church Opera "The Martyrdom of St. Magnus", the church opera being the hallmark of the renowned Austrian Music Festival "Carinthian Summer".
As a guest conductor Johannes Wildner has conducted major orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra London, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the orchestra of the Arena di Verona, the MDR-Symphony-Orchestra, the State Philharmonic Rhineland-Palatinate, the Radio Symphony Orchestra and the State Orchestra of Saarbrücken, or the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony, the Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, the Tonkünstler Orchester Niederösterreich, the Bruckner-Orchestra Linz, the Mozarteum-Orchestra Salzburg, the Danish National Symphony Orchestra Copenhaguen, the BBC-Orchestra London, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan or the China Philharmonic Orchestra.
Johannes Wildner has recorded more than 60 CDs and videos and DVDs, including the integral version of “The Bat” and “Così fan tutte”, "Carmen", Bruckner’s 3rd (in all versions) and 9th symphony (with the reconstructed finale by Samale, Philips, Mazzuca and Cohrs) and a Super Audio CD (Audite) with organ works by Barber, Saint-Saens, Zabel and R. Strauss, played by Christian Schmitt (organ) and the RSO Saarbrücken. In his last recording, he dedicated himself to music by Erich Zeisl played by the RSO Vienna.
